Conservative mega donor Rebekah Mercer cut ties with Steve Bannon yesterday after Bannon and President Trump got into a very public row. Bannon called a meeting Trump family members took with Russian individuals “treasonous” and “unpatriotic” in newly-released book and the president fired back by saying when Bannon was fired, “he not only lost his job, he lost his mind.” Bannon was fired from the White House last August.
In a statement, Rebekah Mercer said, “I support President Trump and the platform upon which he was elected. My family and I have not communicated with Steve Bannon in many months and have provided no financial support to his political agenda, nor do we support his recent actions and statements.”
The Mercers have been large financial backers of Bannon’s political enterprises, including playing an instrumental role in investing in, and growing, the influence and reach of Breitbart.com. Bannon is currently the Editor-In-Chief at the news site.
