President Denies “Shithole” Comments, Criticizes Immigration Deal Presented to Him Yesterday

Blog

President Trump denied the comments attributed to him last night where he called Latin American and African countries “shitholes.”  The president wrote in an early morning tweet that that was not the language used by him in an immigration meeting with members of Congress.

The president also went on to criticize a proposal for a permanent solution for DACA recipients, the illegal immigrants who were brought to this country illegally but at a very young age.  The president was reportedly presented with a framework deal yesterday that would include a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients plus funding for a wall along the southern border, one of the president’s demands.

The president’s alleged comments sparked outrage online and may even have some diplomatic consequences.  Haiti, one of the countries president Trump has disparaged in recent weeks summoned the U.S. ambassador yesterday to explain the president’s remarks.

The president ended DACA last September but gave Congress a six-month window to come up with a permanent solution.
