Fidel Castro’s eldest son has committed suicide Cuban state media announced this evening. Fidel “Fidelito” Castro Diaz-Balart died in Havana. He was sixty-eight years old.
Castro Diaz-Balart had been treated for depression for months. He was one of Fidel Castro’s eleven kids. Castro died in 2016 at the age of ninety. Raul Castro, Fidel’s brother is now president of Cuba. He is expected to step down in April.
The Obama administration restored relations with the island-nation toward the end of its term, with President Obama even visiting Cuba in 2016. The Trump administration has restricted some travel and trade with country since coming into office, however.
