Truck Drivers Say They Are Not Delivering to Cities That Defund Their Police Departments

Business Headlines Health Politics U.S.

Truck drivers across the nation are vowing not to deliver to areas that have defunded or disbanded their police forces.  In a survey conducted by trucking news site CDL Life, 77% of respondents said they would not consider delivering to an area that had voted to defund or disband their police departments.

Truckers were asked to explain their responses. A few of the comments CDL Life got in return are below:

“…if something was to happen and you have to take matters into your own hands, and then you risk being prosecuted for protecting yourself.”

“Simple. We may not like it all the time, but laws and order is necessary,”

“For my own safety and security of my customers’ loads, I have already informed my dispatcher that I will refuse all loads to cities that have defunded their police departments.”

Activists and some of the forces behind them have been pushing for a defunding or disbanding of police forces across country in response to the murder of George Floyd, an African-American man from Minneapolis. Floyd was killed by police while being taken into custody on May 25.
