Patrisse Cullors, a founder of the Black Lives Matter movement said during a 2015 interview that her and one of her co-founders, Alicia Garza are trained Marxists.
“We actually do have an ideological frame,” Cullors said. “Myself and Alicia in particular are trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on ideological theories…”
Cullors was responding to a question posed to her by Jared Ball, a Morgan State University Professor, regarding the BLM movement. Ball was inquiring about critiques of the movement, specifically that “a lack of perhaps ideological direction in Black Lives Matter that would allow it to be, to fizzle out.” It was then that Cullor revealed where her and Garza’s training lies.
