Protesters Block Highway in Downtown Seattle – Becoming a Nightly Occurrence

Headlines Politics U.S.

Drivers are becoming accustomed to having a group of protesters block highways in downtown Seattle, WA. The protests stem from the killing of an African-American man, George Floyd, in Minneapolis by police officers.

Drivers, as seen in the video, are forced to turn their cars around and travel against traffic on a highway to reach the nearest exit to get to their destinations.

Seattle has seen some of the most prolonged unrest since protests began raging across the country in the wake of Floyd’s death on May 25.

Protesters in Seattle have commandeered a 6-block area downtown and labeled it an “autonomous zone.” Both the Mayor of Seattle and the Governor of Washington State have labeled the autonomous zone a peaceful protest and have ordered police officers to stand down in the face protesters. There is yet no word on what, if any, steps are being taken to keep Seattle’s highways clear for the protesters’ safety and the safety of motorists.
