Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives voted on Friday to make Washington D.C. the 51st state in Union. The bill calls for renaming the district “Washington Douglass Commonwealth,” replacing Christopher Columbus with abolitionsist Frederick Douglas.

The bill passed in the House by a vote of 232-180. Zero Republicans supported the bill, and two Democrats crossed party lines to vote no on the proposal.

The bill is not expected to pass in the Senate and President Trump also does not support the measure.
