Only 1 in 6 BLM Protesters Actually Black

Headlines Politics U.S.

Analysis conducted by the Pew Research Center shows that only 17%, or roughly 1 out of 6, Black Lives Matter protesters are actually black. A plurality of protesters are white – by 46%. Twenty-two percent were hispanic, and 8% were Asian.

The delineation is more pronounced when it comes to party affiliation however. Roughly 79% of protesters were found to be Democrats. Only 17% are Republicans.

The analysis echoes comments made recently by billionaire Robert Johnson, the founder of the BET Network who said that black people watch white people who tear down statues and mock them.

“You know black people, in my opinion, black people laugh at white people who do this,” Johnson said.

White people “have the mistaken assumption that black people are sitting around cheering for them saying ‘Oh, my God, look at these white people. They’re doing something so important to us. They’re taking down the statue of a Civil War general who fought for the South.”

“Look, the people who are basically tearing down statues, trying to make a statement are basically borderline anarchists, the way I look at it,” he added. “They really have no agenda other than the idea we’re going to topple a statue.”

Actions like those the country has witnessed over the last several weeks are simply designed to make black people “feel good,” and are akin to “rearranging the deck chairs on a racial Titanic he said.

“It absolutely means nothing.”
