Florida Sheriff: “I’ll Deputize Every Lawful Gun Owner to Stand in the Gap Between Lawlessness and Civility”

Florida Sheriff Darryl Daniels had a clear message for protesters who think they’re going to become violent in Clay County:

“You’ll have something waiting on you that you don’t want.”

The Sheriff made a three minute video in which he laid down clear markers for any would-be trouble makers thinking of disturbing the peace in Clay County.

“We’ll protect your constitutional rights as long as you remain under the umbrellas of peaceful protest or peaceful march. But the second you step out from up under protection of the Constitution, we’ll be waiting on you.”

“If you come to Clay County and you think for one second, we’ll bend our backs for you, you’re sadly mistaken,” Daniels said.

Daniels warned that he’ll make deputies of any lawful gun owner who wishes to join his force in protecting Clay County from outsiders.

“And if we can’t handle you, I’ll exercise the power and authority as the sheriff, and I’ll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in this county and I’ll deputize them for this one purpose to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility,” Daniels added.

Clay County is just south of the Jacksonville area. Daniels, who is African-American, has been Sheriff since 2016.
