Google to Enter Food Delivery Business

Business Headlines U.S.

Google parent company, Alphabet Inc., is planning to enter the food delivery business. The scoop is being reported by The Economic Times, India’s largest English-language newspaper.

The news was first revealed on the Times’ twitter account.

The orders will be taken through a virtual platform where users can place their orders with their google accounts. Deliveries will apparently be fulfilled by the restaurants.

Food delivery has bourgeoned into a billion dollar business as restrictions of movement due to, as well as fears of, Covid19 have swept across the country. The growth has attracted big-name players to the space.

The ride-hailing company Uber, for example, just announced plans to buy Postmates, in a bid to develop its “Uber Eats” business.
