Dr. Deborah Birx: We Need to Consider Wearing Masks at Home

Headlines Health Politics U.S.

Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the top officials on the nation’s Coronavirus Task Force, suggested that the wearing of face masks inside one’s home may become necessary.

“What we are seeing today is different from March and April. It is extraordinarily widespread. It’s into the rural as equal urban areas,” Birx told CNN.

“If you’re in multi-generational households, and there’s an outbreak in your rural area or in your city, you need to really consider wearing a mask at home,” said Birx.

There has been a growing chorus calling for the wearing of masks inside one’s own home, even if alone. The Texas Division of Emergency Management head Nim Kidd said people should consider wearing masks indoors if they have potentially been exposed to the virus.

Florida state Democrats have also called for mandatory mask wearing, including in homes, and officials in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties have also required residents to start wearing masks at home.
