The county of Lincolnshire in the UK has received funding to test pilot new surveillance technology that can search for and identify people wearing hats or glasses, among other characteristics.

The technology can also identify certain moods and facial expressions. The program is to be tested in the town of Gainsborough.

The system will identify these characteristics in the force’s CCTV footage.

Police and crime commissioner Marc Jones has secured the funding, final decisions on what searches will be used have not been made. The supplier that will provide the system has also not been identified.

The scans are not completed live and all footage will be deleted after 31 days according to The Times.
