Biden’s Lead in Poll Drops 10 Points After Two Months of Rioting

Headlines Politics U.S.

A new CNN poll has found that Joe Biden’s lead over lead over President Trump in the presidential election has dropped by 10 points after two months of rioting and civil unrest nationwide.

CNN’s last survey, conducted in early June, had Biden ahead by 14 points. Now he leads by only 4.

The drop shows that the riots and violence have not only swung moderates and independents to Trump, but that the unrest has also hardened support among Trump’s base. His support among conservatives has grown from 76% to 85%, and those between the ages of 35 and 64 now lean toward Trump having previously been supportive of Biden.

The survey was also conducted after the announcement of Biden’s selection of Kamala Harris as running mate, suggesting that her selection not only failed to provide a spark for Biden’s campaign but may have actually cost it.
