Massive Rally Outside of Connecticut State Capitol Building After H.S. Football Season Cancelled Due to Covid19

Headlines Health Politics U.S.

Hundreds flocked to the Connecticut state capitol building last week to protest the cancellation of the H.S. football season due to Covid19.

The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference had announced earlier that it was unsafe to play football due to the pandemic, deeming the sport “high risk.”

Days later, nearly 1,000 players, coaches and parents rallied at the state capitol in protest over the decision. The crowd chanted “Let us play!” while holding signs, flags and even football helmets.

A lengthy meeting between CIAC officials, officials from the state’s Department of Public Health and representatives of Gov. Ned Lamont’s (D) office met for more than 2 and half hours on Friday to try and come up with a solution that would allow the season to continue in some capacity, but were unable to reach a compromise.
