Support for Racial Justice Protests Drops Like a Rock Amid Violence, Riots

A new poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research finds Americans’ support for racial justice protests has dropped dramatically over several months.

While 54% of Americans approved of the protests in June, the poll finds that just 39% approve today. 44% disapprove.

The poll was conducted Sept. 11-14, before the announcement in Louisville, KY, that only one officer would be charged in the Breonna Taylor case, and not for her actual death. That announcement sparked a fresh round of protests, with a man being arrested during the protests that followed for allegedly shooting two police officers in retaliation for Taylor’s death.
