YouTube Suspends OAN Network at Behest of Senators; Dems Urge Network to Crack Down on “Misinformation” Ahead of Jan. 5 Georgia Runoff

Headlines Politics U.S.

YouTube has suspended the One America News Network from its platform after urging from four Democratic Senators who called on the platform to crack down on “misinformation.”

The Senators – Bob Menendez (NJ), Mazie Hirono (HI), Amy Klobuchar (MN), and Gary Peters (MI) – pressured the tech giant to remove election misinformation videos that “boost false fraud claims, seek to delegitimize the 2020 election results, sow public discord and fuel civil unrest.”

They also placed focus on the Jan. 5 runoff races in Georgia, the results of which will determine power in the U.S. Senate.

“The outcome of these races will determine what party controls the U.S. Senate; and for that reason, the races are expected to garner significant national interest,” the Senators wrote. “YouTube and its industry peers must take responsibility and immediately stop the spread of misinformation and manipulated media on their platforms.”
