The US economy added 250,000 jobs last month beating estimates of 190,000 in a jobs report released this morning. It was the strongest month of job creation since March 2017.
Professional and business services accounted for the most job gains with 72,000 new positions. Education and health services came in second with 50,000. Transportation and utilities combined, accounted for 45,000. It’s believed that the unemployment rate will stay put at 4.1%.
Salaries, however, have been slow to rise. Average hourly earnings are projected to rise only 0.3% for the month.
