Representative Maxine Waters has become the third lawmaker to announce they will be boycotting President Trump’s State of the Union Address on January 30th. “Why would I take my time to go and sit and listen to a liar?” Waters said during a recent interview. “I don’t trust him, I don’t appreciate him and I wouldn’t waste my time. He does not deserve my attention,” Waters added.
Congressman John Lewis announced earlier on Friday that he too would not be attending the president’s first State of the Union address. Lewis cited the president’s controversial remarks this week about certain immigrants and the countries they come from as the reason he will not be attending. “I cannot in all good conscience be in a room with what he has said about so many Americans. I just cannot do it. I wouldn’t be honest with myself,” Lewis said.
Congressman Earl Blumenauer announced last week that he also would not be attending. Blumenauer said that as he did the president’s inauguration he would remain in his home state of Oregon, and listen to what constituents think about the state of the country.
