Twenty-seven-year-old Rayshard Brooks was shot outside of an Wendy’s restaurant in Atlanta, GA, last Friday night for allegedly resisting arrest and firing a taser-weapon at a police officer that he had wrestled away from another officer.
Police were called to the Wendy’s after a 911 call that reported a man asleep behind the wheel of his car while the car was in the drive-through of the restaurant. The video shows police officers questioning the man and administering several sobriety tests.
When the officers attempt to arrest Brooks for driving under the influence he suddenly begins fighting with the officers. In the ensuing melee Brooks is shot and killed by one of the officers.
The officers were accused of racism and police brutality. The officer who killed Brooks has been fired and the Atlanta police chief resigned. But the video shows the officers calmly and respectfully questioning Mr. Brooks and then attempting to take him into custody when it becomes clear he is impaired and cannot safely operate his vehicle.
