Chicago, IL, saw the highest number of shootings in a single weekend this year as from Friday night to Monday morning 102 people were shot, 14 of them fatally. Five of the dead are minors.
Several teenagers died in alleys. A toddler was killed when he was hit in the back by a bullet as someone was firing into his father’s car. Two teenagers were sitting on a porch when one noticed a red laster pointing at him. Gun shots rang out soon after. Both of the boys survived.
“For God’s sake, help Chicago cops protect our precious children and our families,” pleaded Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown.
The deadly Father’s Day weekend saw a dramatic increase in shooting victims from the weekend before, when 31 people were shot in Chicago. Two of them died. But it was just two weekends prior that Chicago saw its deadliest weekend in modern time. Sixty-one people were shot then – 24 of them died.
So far there is no word on protests being planned or calls to action from local or national politicians on getting the violence to stop.
