Former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and 2016 Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina announced today that she intends to vote for Democrat Joe Biden over incumbent Republican, President Donald Trump in November’s presidential election.
The news was made in an interview on The Atlantic’s “The Ticket Podcast” released today.
“I’ve been very clear that I can’t support Donald Trump,” Fiorina said. “And elections are binary choices.”
“As citizens, our vote is more than a check on a box. You know, it’s a statement about where we want to go, and I think what we need now actually is real leadership that can unify the country. I am encouraged that Joe Biden is a person of humility and empathy and character. I think he’s demonstrated that through his life. And I think we need humility and empathy everywhere in public life right now. And I think character counts,” she went on to say.
President Donald Trump and Fiorina have had their differences in the past. During the heated 2016 Republican presidential primaries Trump reportedly said of Fiorina, “Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?!” while watching Fiorina give an interview on television.
“Women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said,” Fiorina said in response to Trump’s comments in a subsequent debate.
Fiorina also expressed disappointment that more Republicans are not speaking out against Trump but acknowledged that the President remains immensely popular with large segments of the American people.
“I understand it if you’re in politics, sadly. So I—people, I think, are tired of politics and politicians and whether they’re Democrats or Republicans. If you’re in politics, as Hillary Clinton used to say, you’re in it to win it.”
