Anarchists on Thursday gathered in Washington, D.C., looking to tear down a statue of Abraham Lincoln. The statue was paid for and erected by freed slaves to honor the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation. Frederick Douglas spoke at its dedication.
Protesters then announced they would return the next day, Friday, to actually tear the statue down then. When they arrived, an older African-American man addressed the crowd through a megaphone: “Y’all don’t even know the history of this statue, but you want to tear it down!”
The man tried to educate the crowd on what the statue’s significance but began to get heckled.

Eventually some protesters questioned his loyalty for wanting to address the crowd. “Why are you protecting it?!” one hysterical protester repeatedly yelled. “We gonna get it. One way or another!”
“Why are you protecting it?!”
