Nancy Pelosi Calls George Floyd “George Kirby” When Discussing Police Reform Legislation Named After Him

Headlines Politics U.S.

While discussing Democratic efforts to pass police reform legislation last week, Nancy Pelosi relayed the story of how it came to be that the bill is to be named after George Floyd. Floyd is the African-American man killed by police on May 25 in Minneapolis.

Pelosi was so touched by the idea of naming the bill after George Floyd that she referred to him as “George Kirby.”

“I only will do that if you tell me that this legislation is worthy of George Kirby’s name,” Pelosi said. “He said it is, so we’re very proud. We’re very proud to carry that.”

Floyd’s murder touched off protests and riots across the country.

It’s unclear who exactly Pelosi was referring to. But “George Kirby” was a well known comedian and actor from the 1940s. Here he is doing very excellent impressions of both Archie Bunker and Ralph Kramden.
