Police advocacy groups Blue Lives Matter NYC and Standing Up for NYC are calling on NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to approve a “Blue Lives Matter” street mural in NYC.
The mural would be painted near the NYPD’s headquarters at One Police Plaza in downtown Manhattan.
The groups say the mural was inspired by the “Black Lives Matter” street mural painted by that movement last week in front of Trump Tower in Manhattan. De Blasio helped to paint the mural himself.
“The ‘Blue Lives Matter’ mural would raise awareness for both the physical and verbal abuse officers endure daily. It would also be a way to remember our fallen heroes who have lost their lives defending their cities,” Blue Lives Matter NYC founder Joe Imperatrice told CNN.
“Just as Black Lives Matter wants to bring attention to a subject, which they should, as are we.”
Mayor De Blasio’s office has not yet commented on the request.
