Last week a small group of doctors gathered on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. to tout the positive results they were getting in administering the drug Hydroxychloroquine to their Covid19-positive patients.
Hydroxychloroquine is an inexpensive drug that has been on the market for decades. It has been most often used to treat malaria, lupus and arthritis.
After taking part in a day-long “White Coat Summit” on Covid19, the doctors gathered outside for a brief press conference. During that press conference, Dr. Simone Gold, a board certified emergency physician, spoke about the efficacy of Hydroxychloroquine in treating Covid19 patients.
That 40-minute video garnered over 18 million views on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube before being taken down by all three.
Late this week, Gold confirmed that she had been fired from her job simply for taking part in the summit and appearing in the video.
“I’m a board certified emergency physician for 20 years,” Gold told Fox’s Tucker Carlson. “In fact until it seems like five minutes ago, I was considered a hero and people would be clapping and glad that I was doing what I was doing.”
“And then the video came out and I was summarily fired for appearing in what was told to me is an embarrassing video. So that’s what happened,” she added.
Gold says that she has retained attorney Lin Wood to represent her in the matter.
Twitter temporarily suspended the account of Donald Trump Jr. after he retweeted the video.
