Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith is expected to plead guilty to falsifying key documents in the Trump-Russia investigation.
The plea is part of a deal he has struck with U.S. Attorney John Durham who is investigating the origins of the investigation.
Clinesmith received a document from the CIA, in the form of an email, that attested to former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor Carter Page being an operational contact for the agency.
He allegedly changed the language in the email on Page from “is a source [for the CIA]” to “not a source [for the CIA].”
The change allowed Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants to be renewed on Page and therefore surveillance of the Trump campaign and Trump administration to continue.
