Among 5,412 Americans surveyed at the end of June, 41% reported having at least one adverse mental or behavioral health condition. That according to an August 14 Morbidity and Mortality report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The number is higher among young adults (those in the 18-24 age group). Of those respondents, 75% report experiencing at last one adverse condition.
There has been “a huge surge in depression, suicidality, and anxiety during the pandemic,” said Dr. Carla Marie Manly, a clinical psychologist who specializes in stress and anxiety.
Just over 10% of adults reported seriously considering suicide in the 30 days previous to June, according to the CDC. That is approximately twice the number reported during the same time period in 2018.
