Pressure Begins to Mount on Barr DOJ to Find Out Sources of Funding for Violent Protests & Riots

Pressure from conservative lawmakers is mounting on Attorney General William Barr and the Department of Justice to pinpoint, and expose, the sources of funding for the violent riots that have spread across the country in recent months.

Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) both made appeals over the weekend for Barr to make this a priority.

“Law enforcement needs to look at the funding of violent criminal activity like this. And national Democrats need to confront it. It’s organized. It’s paid for. It’s violent. It’s not about Black lives or any lives; it’s about anarchy and destruction,” Paul wrote in a Fox News op-ed on Saturday.

Paul’s comments come after he and his wife were accosted by an angry mob in Washington D.C. after they left President Trump’s nomination acceptance speech on Thursday.

Sen. Paul would add that some of the activists that were protesting ended up staying on the same floor of his hotel, furthering his concern for safety and undoubtedly heightening his suspicion of funding for these protesters.

Buck echoed Paul’s sentiments in a tweet on Sunday.

“The Justice Department needs to open an investigation into who is funding these violent riots,” he wrote.
