Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings was interviewed by CNN on Thursday but was asked not one question about the “Cuties” controversy that is embroiling the company.
The film is about an 11-year-old girl who breaks with her family to join a “twerking” crew in the hopes of finding stardom through a local dance contest. Twerking is a form of sexually-suggestive dance.
Many believe the film sexualizes children, with some of the scenes described by IMDB as “lawfully defined as pedophilia.”
The hashtag #CancelNetflix was the #1 trending topic on Twitter for a large part of the day Thursday, the same day Hastings was interviewed by CNN anchor Poppy Harlow. The movie premiered on the service the day before.
During the interview, Harlow asked Hastings about “working from home” and his new book.
