After Thursday night’s NFL premier saw a significant decline in TV ratings compared to last year’s, Sunday night’s NFL ratings failed to perform any better.
The game, between the usually large audience-draw-ers, the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Rams registered a 4.7 rating among the key 18-49 demographic. That translates into 14.81 million viewers, as reported by Yahoo Finance.
Last year’s matchup, between the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers drew 22.2 million viewers. Those numbers are also in line with the numbers from the year before, so the drop-off seems to be unique to this season.
Many believe excessive social justice messages have played a role in the reduced size of TV audiences across all sports in recent months.
