The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) withdrew guidance warning that Covid19 could be spread through the air. That guidance was “posted in error” the agency said today.
“A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency’s official website,” the CDC said in updated guidance issued today. “CDC is currently updating its recommendations regarding airborne transmission of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19).”
The CDC has long warned that Covid19 is airborne, capable of being transmitted through air when individuals are in close proximity to one another.
On Friday, the CDC said that the virus also spreads through “respiratory droplets or small particles, such as those in aerosols, produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, sings, talks, or breathes.”
The guidance no longer says Covid can be spread through the air. The CDC says will update its guidance once its review process “has been completed.”
Frequent policy reversals from the CDC have shaken the confidence Americans feel in their elected leaders, especially those in charge of the country’s Covid19 response.
