The FBI has confirmed that several mail-in ballots discarded in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, were opened before being discarded.
“I can say that the general election ballots were improperly opened by county staff,” Dawn Clark, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s office, told National File in a statement.
The FBI reported finding nine military ballots discarded in Luzerne County on Monday. It now appears that Luzerne County staff opened the ballots up and reviewed them before discarding them.
Seven of the ballots were for President Trump and two were not.
County workers put two of the ballots back into their envelopes and re-sealed them, in an apparent effort to preserve them as as legitimate ballots and include them in the counting process.
The Department of Justice has confirmed that it will be ordering Luzerne County to change its ballot practices.
President Trump and Republicans has been warning against the dangers of mail-in voting in the upcoming election for weeks and months.
