In 2016 the CIA asked the FBI to investigate whether the Hillary Clinton campaign hatched a plan to associate then-candidate Donald Trump with Russian election interference in order to distract from the email scandal engulfing her campaign.
The revelation was made by Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliff, who sent a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham (R) explaining that a referral asking for an investigation went to FBI Director at the time James Comey and Deputy Assistant Director of Counterintelligence at the time Peter Strzok.
The referral was based on information the U.S. intelligence community intercepted from Russian intelligence claiming Clinton “had approved a campign plan to stir up a scandal against then-candidate Trump by tying him to Putin and the Russians’ hacking of the Democratic National Committee.”
According to handwritten notes and importantly, former CIA Director John Brennan briefed then-President Barack Obama and other senior national security officials on the intelligence.
“Whether these allegations are accurate is not the question. The question is did the FBI investigate the allegations against Clinton like they did Trump? If not, why not? If so, what was the scope of the investigation? If none, why was that?” Sen. Graham said.
This was just sent to me….and….as a news person….this is a wow. To avoid or not pursue the contents of this is a dereliction of your media duty. Period. https://t.co/sVTIod9INt
