Film streaming service Netflix has been indicted by a grand jury in Texas over the film Cuties.
Cuties is a movie about 11-year-old girls who form a sexually suggestive “twerking” crew. Scenes in the move have been “lawfully defined as pedophilia.”
A grand jury in Tyler County, Texas, returned an indictment against Netflix on Sept. 23, it was revealed today.
Netflix did “knowingly promote visual material which depicts the lewd exhibition of the genitals or pubic area of a clothed or partially clothed child who was younger than 18 years of age at the time the visual material was created, which appeals to the prurient interest in sex, and has no serious, literary, artistic, political, or scientific value,” the indictment reads.
A company spokesperson told The New York Post “‘Cuties’ is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children. This charge is without merit and we stand by the film,” in a statement today.
