President Donald Trump has pardoned former National Security Adviser Gen. Michael Flynn. The President made the announcement on Twitter.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. Flynn has been granted a Full Pardon. Congratulations to @GenFlynn and his wonderful family, I know you will now have a truly fantastic Thanksgiving!” the President wrote.
Flynn was accused of lying to the FBI about conversations he was having with Russian officials in December of 2016, a month before the Trump administration officially took power. It was revealed this year however, that the FBI agents involved in the case set a “perjury trap” for Flynn in the original interview.
The DOJ ordered the case against Flynn dismissed but the judge in the case, Judge Emmet Sullivan, refused to enforce the order. The President’s action today renders the judge’s actions moot.
