A judge in Georgia has dismissed a case involving ballot drop boxes, allowing them to remain open 24 hours a day under video surveillance.
Superior Court Judge Kimberly Esmond Adams’ ruling allows the boxes to remain open until polls close for the Senate runoff elections in the state on Jan. 5.
Officials from the Republican National Committee as well as the Georgia GOP had asked that their hours be limited to the same hours as county election offices. They also asked for quick access to video surveillance footage of the boxes and a court order allowing poll monitors to more closely watch elections.
Adams ruled she did not have jurisdiction to hear the case because of sovereign immunity protections that prevent governments from lawsuits.
Numerous election law and chain-of-custody violations have been found to be associated with ballot drop boxes in Georgia.
