Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has introduced a bill that would raise the $600 direct stimulus checks for Americans to $2,000.
President Trump had instructed Congress to raise the amount in a huge spending bill last week but was forced to sign the bill without the modification in order to avoid a government shutdown.
McConnell’s bill combines the increase in direct stimulus checks with other provisions the President has been demanding. Namely: a repeal of Section 230 liability protection for social media companies, and the establishment of an Election Assistance Commission to study election integrity.
Republicans in the Senate may support the bill but Democratic support is even more uncertain, especially with what are considered wish-list items for President Trump.
