Pennsylvania drop boxes were so sophisticated they could tell if ballots were improperly prepared, giving political parties a chance to “cure,” or correct, them before Election Day.
Thomas King, who is an attorney for Pennsylvania state Republicans trying to prevent the certifying of the state’s election results, says these machines were paid for in part by the efforts of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and former President Obama senior adviser David Plouffe.
King says the machines could tell – by weighing them – if a vote was inserted into an outer return envelope directly (what’s known as a “naked ballot“) instead of in a “secrecy envelope” first, and then that envelope within the outer envelope.
Naked ballots don’t count. But upon such ballots being dropped in these machines the political parties (mainly Democrats) were notified and given a chance to track down individual voters to help them cure the ballot so they would count.
