Not only is early counting of mail-in ballots allowed for the Jan. 5 U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia, it will be mandatory starting this week.
Georgia counties have been allowed to start counting absentee and mail-in ballots for two weeks before the Jan. 5 election. The practice will become mandatory starting Dec. 30 – one week before the election, according to a spokesperson from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
Georgia has been plagued by allegations of massive voter fraud with much of the allegations surrounding the use of absentee ballots. Chain of custody requirements for as much as 78% of ballots in some counties are found to have been broken during the Nov. 3 election.
