Today’s meeting was highest-level diplomatic encounter for the two nations in more than ten years.
South Korean President Moon responding by saying that the meeting should be accomplished by setting the “right conditions.” He added that talks between North Korea and the United States were also necessary, and encouraged the North to be more open to dialogue with the U.S.
Kim Jong Un’s sister is leading the delegation of North Koran athletes to the Olympic Winter Games being held in PyeongChang, South Korea. Jong was seated in President Moon’s box at Olympic Stadium yesterday and Moon shook hands with her when he entered to review the opening ceremonies.
The North’s participation in the games has served as a thaw in the relations between the two countries. Athletes from both nations marched together under a united flag in the opening ceremony and the two nations will be fielding a joint women’s field hockey team.
