The White House has announced that President Trump will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland later this month. The forum is an elite meeting of the world’s most powerful political and economic leaders.
US presidents typically don’t attend the meeting, an effort to avoid being seen as too close to the world’s wealthiest elites (the last sitting president to attend was Bill Clinton in 2000). But the US does typically send a high-ranking delegation.
The White House said, “the President welcomes opportunities to advance his America First agenda with world leaders. At this year’s Forum, the President looks forward to promoting his policies to strengthen American businesses, American Industries, and American workers.”
This year’s gather will take place Jan. 23-36. The theme of this year’s conference is to examine the causes of and solutions for political, economic and social fractures in society.
