Thousands of marchers gathered today in cities all over the country including New York, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., for the second Women’s March today. The Woman’s March advocates for legislation and policies regarding women’s rights but also human rights, racial equality, immigration reform and healthcare reform among other things.
The movement is largely critical of President Donald Trump and supporters in many cities today were heard yelling anti-Trump slogans during their marches. This year’s gatherings have also been energized by the #MeToo movement, the movements exposing and holding accountable perpetrators of sexual harassment in the workplace.
President Trump tweeted earlier in the day that protestors should get out in this “beautiful weather” and celebrate the historic milestones and economic success that has taken place during his first year in office. He touted the female unemployment level, which he says is the lowest it’s been in eighteen years. Today is the one-year anniversary of the president’s inauguration.
Beautiful weather all over our great country, a perfect day for all Women to March. Get out there now to celebrate the historic milestones and unprecedented economic success and wealth creation that has taken place over the last 12 months. Lowest female unemployment in 18 years!

Many Democratic politicians spoke at many marches around the country including House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez who spoke in Washington D.C. Perez said, “As people come together today, the DNC, in partnership with a dozen state parties, will be standing side by side with these courageous activists and asking Americans to commit to vote for Democrats in 2018.”
