Police Presence Requested – At a “Defund the Police” Protest

Headlines Politics U.S.

In a vide clip posted on social media and has since gone viral, a police officer mirthfully describes a request his precinct received for police protection for a protest. There was one thing that was rather ironic about this particular protest however: it was demanding city officials “defund the police.”

The officer, who apparently removed any identifying markers from his uniform before making the video, cheerfully explained the request.

“So I come in this morning and we’re informed there’s gonna be a protest to ‘defund the police,’” the officer says.

“Well that’s fine. I like protests… except for, they requested a police presence, you know, for their safety. At the ‘defund the police’ event,” the officer adds, barely able to hold back his laughter.

In a similar situation last week, a Black Lives Matter protester apparently assaulted an elderly counter-protester and then ran and hid behind a police officer for protection. “Oh, now you want the cops, huh?” a man yells at the assailant. “Now you want the cops, huh? Now you want the cops.”
