Michael Cohen, President Trump’s ex-lawyer and fixer, was serving a three-year sentence in a federal detention center for a bevy of crimes including tax evasion and lying to Congress. He was slated to be released in 2021. He was released in May however, on furlough, to his home in Manhattan. The Department of Justice released him and other prisoners due to coronavirus concerns.
While out of prison he could be seen dining with others at outdoor New York restaurants.
Today he was taken back into custody for refusing conditions of his home confinement. Specifically he was ordered not to engage with the media while serving his sentence or engage in activity on social media.
Cohen has a book deal and would not agree with the conditions being placed on him.
While awaiting a renegotiation of the terms, he was taken from custody.
“This is not what we came here to do today,” Cohen’s attorney Jeffrey Levine said after Cohen was taken into custody. “We came here to work out the terms and conditions of his home confinement.”
Cohen famously said he would take a bullet for Donald Trump. Last year he testified to Congress against the President, saying that the President was a racist and accused him of often embellished his financial records.
