The Trump administration is looking to block billion of dollars allocated to contact tracing from the next Coronavirus relief package, it was revealed by The Washington Post yesterday.
Contact tracing is the process by which states trace places an individual has been as well as people they have come in contact with, if they have tested positive for the Coronavirus.
The practice, already being implemented by several states including New York and New Jersey, is raising concerns among privacy advocates.
The administration is also looking to block billions of dollars in funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from the next bill.
The moves have angered some GOP Senators.
Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has indicated that Republicans will unveil their proposals for the next Covid19 relief package this week as Congress returns from its Fourth of July recess.
