Microsoft has launched software that can count the number of individuals in an enclosed area and the distance between them.
In a virtual event, Microsoft launched Ignite Saptial Analysis, which is intended to help video surveillance systems identify individuals who are too close together.
“Spatial Analysis is an advanced machine-learning model that aggregates data from multiple camera feeds,” said Bharat Sandhu, Microsoft’s Azure AI director of product marketing.
The company is calling the technology “people analytics,” an allusion to the popular website-traffic-measuring discipline.
The software is raising privacy and civil liberties concerns.
