A teacher in Colorado has allegedly assaulted one of her students wouldn’t stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. Karen Smith, a physical education teacher at Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, was placed on administrative leave in the incident. The Boulder Valley School District sent a letter to parents stating that Smith’s actions were under investigation and that a substitute teacher would be taking her place as the investigation continues.
Smith has been a teacher with the school district for twenty years, the district said. The school told parents they are working closely with the local police department. They also asked Smith’s privacy to be respected. The Boulder Valley School District says its policy is that students can either sit or stand during the pledge.
