In the past week intelligence agencies in the U.S. and the UK have repurposed cyber tools and online tactics previously implemented in the post-9/11 “war on terror” for use against information sources that promote “vaccine hesitancy,” along with information that runs counter to current Covid19 narratives.
The new efforts will take down anti-vaccine propaganda and seeks to “disrupt the operations of the cyberactors responsible for it, including encrypting their data so they cannot access it and blocking their communications with each other.”
The measures will involve the “Five Eyes” alliance (U.S., UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada), alerting each others’ intelligence agencies to target “propaganda” sites that are hosted within their borders.
