Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom ordered Fourth of July celebrations in California shut down this year due to a “surge in Coronavirus cases.”
Beaches, bars, restaurants and museums were all ordered shuttered. (Notably, Newsom’s winery in Napa Valley is still open).
Californians, however, were uncowed. The night sky was lit up in California with spectacular displays of fireworks from practically every cordon and county.
Here are just a few of the scenes captured on Californians on Independence Day:
“No 4th of July. Celebrating America is now illegal.
