Covid19 Cases Are Spiking, But Deaths Aren’t

Headlines Health U.S. World

Covid19 positive cases are spiking all over the country. But not only are deaths not rising, they actually seem to be falling. In fact, deaths are at their lowest levels since the beginning of the outbreak. On July 3, for example, the U.S. reported 56,567 new Covid19 cases. That same day, 589 new deaths were reported, the lowest on record since the end of March.

According to an analysis by financial blog Zerohedge the Covid19 hospitalization rate has declined to about 20%. The hospitalization mortality rate has been halved to about 10%. The overall mortality rate, with regards to lagged cases, has dropped by about 2/3 from 6.5% to 2%.

And for the three largest states with hospitalization data CA/NY/TX, the current statistics are as follows. Hospitalization rate: 18.1%, 18.7%, 19.4%. Hospitalization mortality rate: 7.8%, 6.9%, 5.2%. Overall mortality rate: 1.7%, 1.5%, 1.0%.

Sweden has gotten a lot of criticism in the international community for refusing to lock down due to Covid19. It seems, as the numbers keep coming in, they have been proven right.

Deaths, hospital admissions and ICU admissions are all falling in that country. Those are signs of a outbreak that is in retreat not on the rise, Swedish officials say.

World Health Organization officials warned last week that 11 European countries, including Sweden, were seeing a “dangerous resurgence” of the virus and that healthcare systems could soon be overwhelmed.

But Swedish officials say that “surge” in cases is the result of more testing, and that mild cases, that were previously unreported, are now being included in the data.
